Hurricanes in Central America

The hurricane season for the Atlantic has begun, the first tropical storm of 2010 is Agatha; this depression is affecting areas of Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Agatha started last Saturday with torrential rain and winds of up to 45 mph. This storm brought widespread floods to much of Central America and is the deadliest tropical cyclone in the eastern Pacific since 1997. So far this depression has caused the death of 20 people in Honduras, 118 people were killed in Guatemala and 13 deaths also occurred in El Salvador.
Presidents of these countries have declared a state of emergency.
It seems that Central America is destined to suffer the damages from these natural disasters over and over. Every year the population of countries like Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Honduras prepare for the worst, hoping that they can make it through once again. There have been so many hurricanes in this area in the last couple of years that it is hard to keep count. Hurricanes like Mitch, wilma, Adrian, and Felix have hit these countries in the past and left hundreds of deaths, flooding and extreme damages that add up to billions of dollars. No wonder why these countries are top in the list of the poorest countries in the world.
They have to cope with these types of damages every single year and this is an arduous task.
